Vehicle & asset tracking: from a pilot with one customer to a self-hosted, EU-sovereign product

Challenge

A Danish operator wanted to see its vehicles and assets in real time and keep that data on EU soil: live position, how long a vehicle had been parked, journey history, mileage and engine diagnostics, all on a platform they own and control. Most off-the-shelf trackers ship with a third-party SaaS backend that owns the data and the roadmap. The operator wanted sovereignty and control, and Nordic IoT wanted to build it once and offer it to others.

Solution

We built the customer a fleet-tracking platform they own, and we host and run it for them inside the EU, so their vehicle data stays on infrastructure we operate for them. Trackers on the vehicles (Teltonika, or other devices they already have) send straight to it. Their team opens a live map in any web browser. There is nothing to install, and it works just as well on a phone as on a desktop. They can see where every vehicle is right now, replay any past journey, check total mileage, see how long a vehicle has been parked where it stands, read engine fault codes, and draw zones on the map that raise an instant alert the moment a vehicle enters or leaves. It began as a proof of concept for one customer. Because we designed it from the start to serve many organisations, it is now a production product, offered either on our shared EU platform, with every client fully separated from the others, or as a dedicated server that is theirs alone.

Results

It runs in production today. From any browser, phone included, the customer sees their whole fleet in one place: live positions, journey history, mileage, parking, engine diagnostics and alerts. Everything stays on EU infrastructure we host and control, under EU jurisdiction, so the data remains theirs. The platform is hardened and its security was independently reviewed, so it also stands up to the resilience and supply-chain questions their own customers and regulators are beginning to ask under NIS2 and the EU Cyber Resilience Act. We assess our readiness honestly rather than claiming a certification. And because it was built as a product, it grows with them, whether that means more vehicles, more sites, or a move to their own dedicated server, without starting over.
