Why buy IoT connectivity from Nordic IoT

SIMs can be bought many places. Here is why industrial deployments choose connectivity as part of the Nordic IoT system.

The Telenor Connexion network

Access to 500+ networks across 200+ countries. Automatic network selection per device, or pin specific operators where needed. Nordic IoT handles provisioning and first-line support: one contact for the entire chain.

EU-hosted platform

Your entire SIM management runs on EU infrastructure. Any data that must be exchanged with our underlying network provider is anonymised by us before it leaves our systems.

Private APN and VPN

Private APN keeps your device traffic off the public internet, and can be combined with VPN tunnels directly into your data centre. Typically chosen by customers with NIS2, OT, or other security-critical requirements.

Ready for your deployment on day one

Every SIM ships pre-configured with the correct APN and data plan for your specific solution. Plug it in and it works, and you manage your SIM cards in our own platform.

24/7 monitored operation (SOC)

Your connectivity is monitored around the clock from a Service Operation Centre (SOC). If a network issue arises, it is detected and handled, often before you notice it. A formal SLA with guaranteed response times is available as an add-on.

eSIM and remote provisioning

With SGP.32 eSIM, a device's network profile can be updated remotely. Change operator, add a country, or re-provision a unit already in service, with no SIM swap and no site visit.

Questions about IoT SIM cards

When does billing start?
Billing starts as soon as the SIM cards are activated. A SIM can sit non-invoiced for up to about one month, after which invoicing begins unless we have agreed otherwise.
Is there a minimum contract term?
Pay-as-you-go has no binding. It runs month to month. Fixed plans and data pools carry a 6-month minimum per SIM, matching our network agreement. That is half the 12-month, often 24-month, contracts the large managed providers use, and unlike them, there is no rolling auto-renewal and no notice period beyond the current month. The term applies to the SIM card, not to the data tier or pool size, so you can change those anytime at no charge. After six months it is month to month.
Can I change my plan later?
Yes, anytime, at no charge. Increases (a larger plan or a bigger data pool) take effect immediately, so you are covered the moment you need it. Reductions take effect at the start of your next billing month, so you keep what you have already paid for. The SIM count carries the 6-month minimum; the data tier and pool size do not.
Which countries and networks are covered?
Through our partnership with Telenor Connexion, our SIM cards have access to 500+ mobile networks in 200+ countries. The Nordic Sim plan covers EU and EEA countries. Nordic Sim Plus and Nordic Sim Pro provide global coverage.
Do I pay for SIMs that aren't being used?
No keep-alive fee and no account minimum. A SIM that isn't transmitting costs you only its monthly line fee; on pay-as-you-go you pay for data when it is actually sent. There is no charge for simply holding a SIM ready.
What happens if I exceed my data allowance?
Your SIM will continue to work. Overage data is billed at a per-MB rate at the end of the billing period. We recommend monitoring usage through the SIM management platform to avoid surprises.
Can I pause SIMs that aren't in use?
Yes. After the binding period, a SIM can be paused for up to 3 months at a time for a low monthly holding fee instead of the full subscription, useful for seasonal equipment, spares, or devices between deployments. Reactivate it from the management portal whenever you need it.
What is a Private APN?
A Private APN (Access Point Name) creates a dedicated, isolated network path for your devices. Traffic is separated from the public internet at the carrier level, which means your devices communicate through a secure tunnel rather than the open internet. This is required for many industrial and compliance-sensitive deployments.
Can the SIMs be used permanently in countries with roaming restrictions (e.g. Brazil)?
Yes. Some countries (Brazil among them) limit how long a SIM from another country may roam (permanent-roaming restrictions). For long-term deployments there, we can localise the SIM to a compliant local profile so your devices keep working within the rules. Tell us where you're deploying and we'll confirm coverage and any local requirements before you order.
How quickly do SIM cards ship?
We hold popular SIM types in stock in Albertslund, Denmark, so in-stock orders typically ship within 1–2 working days. If a type needs to be restocked from the network operator, delivery can take up to 14 working days. We confirm the timeframe when you order. International orders ship via tracked carriers.
Do you support two-way SMS for devices?
Yes, on request. We can enable two-way SMS: your platform sending a command to a device (for example, to wake it, trigger a report, or push a configuration change) and a device sending an SMS back (for example, an out-of-band alert when its data connection is down). Because SMS is billed per message, we enable it for specific use cases rather than as a standard option. Tell us your expected volumes and we will set it up and confirm the price.
