Industrial charging-energy monitoring: from proof of concept to a hardened, self-hosted platform

Challenge
A heavy-industrial operator needed session-level visibility of the energy drawn when its vehicles and auxiliary systems charge at operational sites. The data had to be captured at the meter, at sites where fixed connectivity and IT integration were not options, and it had to be secure and EU-sovereign from the first unit rather than a cloud service phoning home. There was no off-the-shelf way to record per-charging-session energy from mixed meter and wiring hardware at the edge, and any fleet would have to run economically over cellular.
Solution
We took it from a four-unit trial to a production rollout of eight hardened units, metering energy right at the source and sending it back over cellular from sites where fixed lines and IT integration were not an option. On dashboards we host for them inside the EU, the customer sees each charging session broken down: when it started, its peak, and the energy it used. Nothing about their operation leaves infrastructure we control. The units are built to a demanding, repeatable security standard, and the whole setup is designed to run unattended and recover on its own when a site drops, because at this kind of edge no one can drive out every time a connection hiccups.
Results
It is in production and built to scale. The customer gets clear, per-session visibility of the energy their charging draws, wherever the sites are, delivered economically over cellular. The system sends only what matters, so a large rollout stays affordable to run. Their data stays on EU infrastructure we host and control. The security posture is hardened and independently reviewed, and we assess our readiness honestly against NIS2, the EU Cyber Resilience Act and the relevant industrial and information-security standards. It is a genuine self-assessment rather than a certification, and it helps the platform answer the resilience and supply-chain questions critical-infrastructure operators now face. The same platform and the same hardware extend beyond energy to water, temperature, vibration and other monitoring as needs grow, offered on our shared EU platform or as a dedicated server that is theirs alone.
