Teltonika FMB003 Fleet Tracking: Technical Guide

Why the FMB003
The Teltonika FMB003 is a compact OBD-II GPS tracker designed for plug-and-play fleet tracking. It draws power directly from the vehicle's OBD port, requires no professional installation, and starts transmitting position data within minutes of being connected. For fleet operators who need to track vehicles without modifying wiring or mounting external hardware, this is the most practical entry point.
The device combines GNSS positioning (GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, BeiDou) with 2G/4G cellular connectivity and Bluetooth 4.0 for external sensor pairing. It reads standard OBD-II parameters (vehicle speed, RPM, fuel level, engine load, coolant temperature) and transmits them alongside position data to the fleet management platform.
Bluetooth sensor integration with Teltonika EYE
The FMB003 supports Teltonika's EYE series of Bluetooth sensors, which extend the tracker's capabilities beyond what OBD-II provides:
- EYE Sensor (temperature + humidity): Monitors cargo conditions in real time. Useful for fleets carrying temperature-sensitive goods or for general environmental awareness inside cargo areas.
- EYE Beacon: Proximity detection for driver identification, asset tracking within a yard, or geofence triggering based on beacon presence.
- EYE Sensor (movement + magnet): Detects door open/close events on trailers or cargo compartments, providing load status without wired sensors.
Each FMB003 can connect to multiple EYE sensors simultaneously. Sensor data is bundled with the GPS telemetry record and transmitted as a single payload, which keeps data costs low and simplifies backend processing.
What the platform shows
Position data from the FMB003 feeds into our fleet tracking platform, which provides: real-time vehicle positions on a map, full route history with playback, geofence entry/exit alerts, parking duration analysis, and per-vehicle telemetry dashboards showing OBD-II and Bluetooth sensor data.
Multi-tenant architecture supports fleet management companies that operate vehicles for multiple clients. Each client sees only their own vehicles, while the managing company has a consolidated overview.
Deployment considerations
The FMB003 is configured remotely via Teltonika's FOTA (Firmware Over The Air) platform before shipping. We pre-configure each unit with the correct server address, data transmission intervals, and Bluetooth sensor pairings. The fleet operator receives a device that plugs into the OBD port and works immediately, with no configuration needed on site. For fleets operating across borders, the included Telenor Connexion IoT SIM handles multi-network roaming automatically, selecting the strongest available carrier in each country.
